SWDM4 Compare with SR BD

Different: SR Bidi is two optical lanes over a 2-fiber duplex LC optical multi-mode fiber. The Cisco QSFP -00G-SR1.2 BiDi operates 50Gb PAM4 channels, for a total aggregate bandwidth of 100Gb. PAM4 technology enables 50Gb data rate with signaling at 25Gbaud rates. For QSFP-40G-SR-BD consists of two 20-Gbps transmit and receive channels in the 832-918 nanometer wavelength range.

SWDM4 transceiver multiplexes four wavelengths on each simplex fiber, for 40G is 10G per wavelength, 4x10G. For 100G is 4x25G.
SWDM4 can’t connect with SR Bidi to use, as channel and wavelength different. But this two bring same benefit for end customer, which enables reuse of existing 10 gigabit or 25G duplex MMF infrastructure for migration to 40 Gigabit or 100G Ethernet connectivity.

Mar 01, 2022Normal QSFP28 CWDM4, LR4 modules is NRZ (non-return to zero), which is two-level binary modulation format. QSFP28 Single Lambda Transceiver is use PAM4 (four-level pulse amplitude modulation). PAM4 contains twice the amount of data than NRZ which increase network bandwidth without adding additional fibers, effectively improve bandwidth utilization. So there won’t be any need for 4x25G-to-100G conversion because both the electrical interface and the optical signal will be single-lane 100G.
